Julie Johnston

Julie has worked extensively in operational management positions for creative businesses at every stage of the business cycle from startup through domestic and international expansion, and across a wide range of service complexity.

She began her career as the production coordinator for a multimedia event company who quickly recognized her ability to work with diverse groups of talent by giving her responsibility for a series of live national shows.

Julie subsequently joined the startup film editing company The Lookinglass Company in Santa Monica where she moved quickly through the production department to support the company’s rapid growth in the Los Angeles and Chicago markets, and gained recognition for her ability to teach and support the development of the company’s staff at every level.

As the company expanded into London and New York through its negotiation with The Whitehouse, Julie was asked to play a central role in integrating the four offices under the Whitehouse brand into a single operational platform. Her ability to translate the daily production needs of multi-office projects into a series of intuitive systems and practices that reflected the requirements of each local market as well as those of the organization as a whole, resulted in her becoming the Executive Producer of the London office during the latter stages of the transition, with daily responsibility for the operation of the office and its staff of 25, and its interaction with the Whitehouse’s US based offices.

Her first-hand knowledge of the subtle differences of the four major markets in which the company operated, resulted in Julie being brought to New York where she managed the development of the company’s proprietary networked operating systems, as well as produced for some of the Whitehouse’s most demanding clients.

Julie was then recruited by Ascent Media to run the New York office of Filmcore, Ascent’s own multi-office editing company, where she used her considerable skills in staff management, training and communications to help establish the office as a major New York presence.

Julie and her husband moved to Las Vegas for 18 months, in support of his culinary career. But on her return to Los Angeles, Julie was hired back by Ascent as a consultant in the wake of their acquisition of Beast and Mad River Editorial to support their subsequent merger with Filmcore under the Beast umbrella. For the past few months she has brought her considerable insight to help unlock the potential of the individuals and organizations involved.

Julie resides in West Hollywood California with her husband Jason and daughter Ruby. They are expecting their second daughter this summer.
